I broke it!

A special thank you to Stacey and Ruth for hosting the Tuesday SOLC!  And a thank you for honoring my end of the month slice this week on the blog!  Click here for a link back to the slice!

Around our house we love to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas!  (Now I know, this song will be stuck in your head too!) and this week's slice is all about our Nattie eating the favorite fruits and her two year old mindset when thinking about what mommy does to the fruit.

On Friday morning, Nattie came downstairs from her full night of sleep (yay) in her big girl bed (more on that here) and announced, "I'm hungry!"  So, doing what any loving mother would do, I poured a little bowl of Cheerios for her and watched her gobble them up!  She then proceeded to say, "I'm hungry!" (Yep, just like the very hungry caterpillar).  So, I offered her a banana...here's the funny part!  I moved to "slice" it up rather than just offer it "monkey style"!

After giving it to her, she cried out in earnest, "my banana, it broken! I no want it broken Mama!"  And immediately began stacking the slices back together as if they were a puzzle to be reconnected!  Then she started to cry.  I felt horrible and will no longer serve "broken" banana to my little monkey!

  1. I'm sure there needs to be a song about broken bananas! Love the "real life slice" this morning and still love the Manilow take on slicing!

  3. Sweet and sad - a broken banana. This is a slice you wouldn't forget even if you hadn't written it down. But I am glad that you wrote. Thank you for sharing.

  4. Love the term "monkey style"! I won't be able to eat a banana ever again without thinking about that. Poor Nattie, a broken banana. Too funny!

  6. Aw, poor baby with a broken banana! This is the perfect slice of life story. I will forever debate my banana eating style...shall it be broken or monkey style today?

  7. You just never know when it's going to be a mistake, do you, Amy? What a fun story, but tragic for little Nattie. Thanks for the advice to be careful!

  8. I also love the phrase "monkey style"! Both my girls love bananas.... my oldest eats them monkey style and broken. :) I'll never look at a banana the same way again.

  9. That is too funny! She's actually making it a little easier for you. I like broken bananas in my cereal, but prefer them "monkey style" as well.
