...zing

Slice 3 of 31
I am always thinking about how different growing up is for my two children compared to when I was little. Technology that surrounds our kids today has definitely influenced their interests.

I have experienced interesting technology moments today. The first is with my son. He saved and saved his allowance since the beginning of last summer all the way until Christmas. He finally saved enough (with birthday and Christmas money too) to be able to purchase his ipod. Now, he's used it to narrate two videos of him playing games on the Wii. I allowed him to post the videos to Youtube. He's really happy about being able to do this. It seemed so natural for him.

The other part of my technology moments today were with Natalie. We noticed her holding the Wii remote today as if she was playing the Wii. Also, my father-in-law was letting her play with his iphone. She had a great time and at 16 months old knew how to tap the screen to make the phone work. They played "Cake Doodle". She growled at my husband when he tried to take the phone away from her. And we all giggled because it was so funny how territorial she got about the phone so fast.

Technology is playing an ama"zing" role in their lives everyday...I wonder what our next technology moment will be...

  1. Interesting. I wonder how different it will be for their children. Even with the technology, I see that you stick to old fashioned values, and have your son save for his ipod.
    Thank you for sharing.

  2. One of my students pointed out the other day that she didn't understand how to use the phone at school because there is no "call" button to press. It is interesting to see the changes in perception over the years due to technology. This is great topic!

    1. Oh, that made me think of the rotary dial phone-which is one of the toys Natalie plays with (think it's from playschool). Those will definitely be obsolete.

  3. So true. Yesterday, a soon-to-be-three year old played on my iPad. After I showed her how to tap the animals, she was hooked and played with it without help. I was stunned. A friend of mine's 10 year old asked what her favorite website was when she was a kid. No internet at that time. Great slice.
