What do you...

Slice 14/31

Oh, baby of mine,
just stepping out into the world on your own…

What do you...see?

When you gaze up at the sky with your arms out high,
what is it that you’re thinking?

I want to climb inside your mind and view the world as you do @ @

What do you...hear?

When you cock your head and then turn in surprise
with the noise going by,
what is it that you’re thinking?

I want to climb inside your mind and hear the world as you do { }

What do you...feel?

When you gingerly swish your fingers between the wet blades of grass,
what is it that you’re thinking?

I want to climb inside your mind and touch the world as you do!!!!

What do you...smell?

When you wrinkle your nose and sneeze the little kurchoo
from the moss and plants around you,
what is it that you’re thinking?

I want to climb inside your mind and smell the world as you do >…

What do you...taste?

When you put that tiny chunk of dirt in your mouth and the grit
makes your tongue unfurl,
what is it that you're thinking?

I want to climb inside your mind and taste the world as you do )>

--dedicated to Natalie, my daughter,
on her first spring day outside,
just learning to walk…
alone...

  1. Ah, so special! Nothing will ever be the same for her! And for you!

  2. Nothing can be better--your child walking in the spring air. What an exciting time for all. I was the first one to see my first grandchild walk. Priceless at any age.

  3. This is beautiful. I think it needs to get pasted into her baby book!

    1. Thanks Stacey!
I took lots of pictures on Sunday when this was taking place-so I will probably scrap them along with the post! Thanks for the idea!

  5. Weaving the senses through your poem gave your poem structure and a nice gentle rhythm,
see, hear, feel, smell , taste
she is sweet, and her mommy loves her

Congratulations on a big day, walking alone!!
