Throw It Away? OH, NO!

Slice 12

Thank you to the Two Writing Teachers
for hosting the 9th Annual SOLSC

My slice didn't appear to me until late in the game...my scouts were out noticing and noting potential details a writer would gather for a slice...so many little moments...

And then it came...I worked at cleaning up the house today.  Restoration after the weekly tornado-like destruction that occurs.  As I cleaned up some papers that I no longer thought were important I tossed them into the trash bin.

Nattie saw one of the papers I had thrown away.  And the drama began.  "No momma, don't throw this away!"  She pulled it out of the trash.  "This is my Princess Leia story!  It's very important to me because it's my story!"

I apologized and shared that from now on, I'll ask first if she'd like to recycle the stories or keep them.   I'll never throw it away again.  Don't throw away those stories.

Sometimes stories are more valuable when we're faced with throwing them away or just keeping them around....

  1. I love that her story was so important to her! I always had to clean out when my children weren't around because they wanted to keep everything.

  3. This is SO true- fun facts about holding on to writing-
David Shannon's No David Stories were his actual childhood writings!
The stories that became the American Girl books and dolls were stories found in a dumpster! Luckily, they too were discovered and rescued like your young writer's stories.
