Shoes to choose...
Nat needed new tennis shoes, sneakers, runners...I took her with me because it's best to measure a growing child at the point of purchase. I mean, you blink and they're in a new size. The department store offered a 30% off coupon so I reasoned out that this happened to be a good deal.
We arrived at the store and meandered our way through the aisles back to the shoe department. I have always let the children pick which shoes they liked best since they were old enough to decide (purpose and reason considered). Today was no exception.
You may or may not know of the current love affair with Star Wars in our house! So when Natalie saw the Star Wars shoes, any other shoe no longer existed on the choice radar. Darth Vader, Storm Trooper, and R2D2 character shoes...the controversy in my mind-these are all in the boys shoes section! The store didn't have Star Wars shoes "for girls"! Oh, no! Princess, Frozen, Peppa Pig, Hello Kitty-these were for girls. But our girl was having none of it! I wasn't going to debate or battle-she could pick as always. Why do they only have pink or girlie for girls?
Happily, we walked out with a pair of R2D2 shoes for her growing feet...(to be a little Seussical) with brains in her head and those feet in the shoes regardless of gender, I let her choose!
Amy, this is a charming story that shows how choice can be the right one for the child but not so wonderful for Mom. I am glad that you let Nat have the one she loved.
