Celebrating Learning

Thank you to Ruth Ayers for the Celebrate Link Up
at her blog, Discover Play Build
Head over there and link up your Celebration too!

This week I'm celebrating learning!  I always consider myself to be a learner above everything else.  I love to try new things and feel a sense of accomplishment as I grow from the experience.  Maybe, just maybe it's becoming contagious around the house...

One of my co-workers is learning to play the trumpet.   She joined this band of adults who want to learn to play an instrument.  Her group held an open house to recruit newbies and since she knew Kevin (my hubs) wanted to learn an instrument too, she invited him to attend.  Kevin went to the open house and decided he wanted to join the group and learn to play (drumroll please) THE BASS GUITAR!

So, this week, he had his first lesson. He's been picking up the bass and trying to practice every night.   On the night of his first lesson, he was full of pride and put on a little show for us.  He's just glowing over this...

I'm so happy that he's doing something that he's always wanted to do...learning to play an instrument!  So you can see why I have to celebrate learning this week!  Cheers to anyone who took on new learning this week!

  1. Anytime I read about adults embracing music I smile. I nearly majored in music, and one of the instruments I tinkered with was the bass guitar! Cheers indeed! Do you play an instrument? I have been trying to return to the piano and the guitar (6 string). Thank you for sharing!

  2. I just read last night that as adults we often stay away from things we aren't good at or don't know...so cheers to your hubby taking on a cool new experience as a "grown-up!" Love hearing this kind of thing. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Have you heard "Ancora Imparo" which loosely translated means I am still learning. It's attributed to Michelangelo. I wrote about it here: https://reflectionsontheteche.wordpress.com/2015/01/27/ancora-imparo/
    A philosophy to embrace.

  4. YAY!!!! I love this!!! I have neglected my ukelele practicing. I feel like this post was written as a reminder to me to return to it. Thank you!! Can't wait to hear more about your husband's journey with the guitar!

  5. I played the flute in high school, and a part of me would love to pick one up and play again. I might bee rusty, but I think I could get most of it back. My son plays guitar and he taught himself to play. Good luck to your husband!

  6. YAY, YAY, YAH for your husband! I think that is awesome. I used to play the violin. I've often toyed with the idea of going back and taking some lessons now that I am old enough to appreciate it. Have a great weekend and keep rockin'!

  7. What a great celebration. I was a Professional Development planning meeting yesterday and it really got me thinking about ALL the LIFELONG learning that REAL people do.....I'd love to learn to play the guitar too.

  8. I played the trombone all my school life, & keep thinking I would like to learn to play a "smaller" instrument, like the recorder. You can tell your husband congratulations, Amy, & he's inspiring me!

  9. I admire anyone, young or adult, who plays an instrument. Enjoy the music!
