Slice Advice-Family Travel Journal!

Two Writing Teachers, Slice of Life Tuesdays!

Before I even knew how much writing, journaling and slicing mattered to me, I crafted a special part of Rudd Family History.  The special part of Rudd Family History I am speaking of is our family "Travel Journal".  Regrettably, I didn't start it until 2003, even though we've been married since 1996.

The journal contains all of our vacation stories (where we visited, stayed, chowed, and played)!  I am so glad I recorded this little piece of our lives together so far.

As I was  reading through the journal tonight, I found myself chuckling at some of the funny incidents that have happened in the past. Kam asked me what I was doing and I explained about the journal.  He decided that he wanted to write about his vacation experience too!  Yay for making writing fun!   And so I have some slice advice, keep a travel journal (if you don't already), you'll be glad you did!

    1. I saw yours from your trip! That is so nice that you have all of those details to savor! I am a detail person so I enjoy reading little things like the ones you mentioned about your cruise!

    1. I found that pictures only told part of the story-it's sort of like filling in the blanks!

  4. What a great idea! I did that for a Europe trip, and I treasure it. You think you will always remember, but you lose the details, and those are what make the trip. I will get a journal for my family now! Thanks for sharing.

  6. At the end of each day of our travels, I make a point of writing about our day in my journal. It's a great way to remember where the pictures were taken and all the stories that go along with them. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Yes, Judy,
It is a great way to remember-it helps with scrapbooking too in case you go back to journal about the photos too!

  11. Maybe you really did kinda know "how much writing, journaling and slicing mattered to me" even then as you made those travel journals. What a grand idea. Good for you for making them - and for sharing this good idea!

  12. I haven't done this but my sister does. She started some 25 years ago when she biked across the US. Now she does them for every trip she and her husband take. They take turns being author for the day. They put little sketches and anecdotes in and it is fun to read each person's perspective.

    1. I like that idea, taking turns being author for a day. That seems fun! Maybe I can get Kam to do that next year...we need to add sketches to ours! Thanks for sharing your ideas! Fun Fun!

  13. I love that you have worked on a travel journal...hmmm....I guess it isn't too late to start, even if I'm a grandma now! We have a family journal up at our summer home and it is so much fun to read after another one of my sisters was up. Now the kids are starting to write it also. Thanks for sharing Amy.

    1. Nanc,
My sister-in-law (in Ocean City) has a visitor journal at her beach house. If you stay, you get to write about the visit-where you stayed, what you ate, where you shopped etc.
It was fun to tell about our week of adventure there too!
I bet there are fun stories to read in the family journal! That's a really cool thing to do!
