The Promise of a Sleep-filled Night
Bing, bong, bing, bing, Bing, bong, bing, bing-
Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding
Stories read, girl in bed, thoughts of sleep buzzing ‘round my head
Ah, the promise of sleep…
Bing, bong, bing, bing, Bing bong, bing, bing
Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding
Dreams fill my head, then sound I dread, crying from the girl in bed
No! You promised sleep…
Bing, bong, bing, bing, Bing bong, bing, bing
Ding
Girl still crying, missing sleep, now this promise will not keep…
I really need the sleep…
Bing, bong, bing, bing, Bing, bong, bing, bing
Ding, Ding
Girl back to sleep, will the promise keep before the alarm goes beep-beep-beep-beep?
The promise now is broken no words need to be spoken
Bing, bong, bing, bing, Bing, bong bing, bing
Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding
Girl crying out, I want to shout, “Why can’t I get some sleep?”
Bing, bong bing, bing, Bing bong bing, bing…
Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding
Girl back to sleep and it’s time to start the day
The promise of a sleep filled night, broken by the way!
Great poem and so so true...when ever the promise of sleep is broken it does make for a tough next day...I had one on Sunday...I'm always amazed though that teachers are still "on" with little sleep!
ReplyDeleteYes, Lynn,
DeleteI am always amazed at what teachers can do...
So many thoughts bouncing around makes the brain hard to turn off. I hope there is some sleep in your future.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elsie,
DeleteI too have those noises in my head - that lead to coffee filled days and more sleepless nights - the only cure - weekends!
ReplyDeleteI guess I didn't do very well here...I meant for the bing bongs and dings to be the grandfather clock telling time...and the girl is Nattie-she kept waking up all through the night last night...
DeleteYes, coffee was my friend today!
