Day 10 Goodbye and Hello

Thank you to Two Writing Teachers
for hosting the Slice of Life

First we say "Goodbye" and then we'll say "Hello"!

You had us at "Hello"!
Goodbye...
Goodbye speedy silver Sebring!  A decade ago we said hello to you.  Today it. is. time.  to say goodbye.  Oh, how well you've performed!  Getting us through the slippery slopes of winter and keeping us cool on the sunniest days of summer.  We've ridden down the turnpike, taken many a mountain curve and toured tiny side streets of towns here, there and everywhere.  You've hauled us to hospitals, driven us through drive-thrus and carted us to concerts.
You've carried:
kids, cats and carts
books, baskets and babies
presents, pajamas and party favors!

You never failed us.  Always turning over even on the coldest Ohio days.  You've been reliable all days of our lives together-for that we thank you.  Parting is such sweet sorrow dear car.  We'll miss you. 💓

Hello New Friend! CRV Buddy.
You have reliable tracks to fill starting today.  We look forward to making new memories with you.
Hello!

  1. Of
    kids,
    cats,
    and carts,
    and cars,
    our memories
    collide;
    four wheels
    and a roof,
    four doors
    and a trunk --
    with the paved road
    ahead, and many miles
    behind us,
    we always anticipate
    a smooth ride.

-- doing some line-lifting to leave poems as comments this morning. Thank you for the inspiration.

  4. A new car - how exciting, but yes it will have a lot to live up to. It's always hard to say good-by to one that has been reliable over many years. Enjoy!

  5. I love this - it reminds me of slice I wrote to my laptop two years ago. It is incredible how these objects in our lives come to mean so much. We do spend a lot time with them and they hold so many memories. You've never failed us - loved the small detail of party favors - small detail had big meaning. Beautifully crafted -- enjoy!

  6. First of all, congratulations on your new car. I hope it can live up to the fabulousness of your old car. How fun to think about all of the memories with your car. I still remember our van. We raised our kids with that van. It went on so many amazing trips. I always miss that van, but I think I really miss the memories it helped to make.

  7. Isn't it funny how one can become so attached to a car? I've been there and had some similar thoughts. The memories especially that are tied to a vehicle. It's a snapshot of how quickly the kids grow up and all of the family vacations that the vehicle allowed us to take. Letting go of a car is letting go of a piece of the past. Thank goodness the memories stay even when it's time to say goodbye to the car. Enjoy your new wheels :)

  9. There are few things that make life easier than a reliable car. I have loved some reliable vehicles in my day too and they are tough to give away or let go. Onto new adventures with your new ride!
